Today, I would like to tell you about one of my favorite children's books, The Adventures of Cricket (Dế Mèn Phiêu Lưu Ký) by the famous Vietnamese writer Tô Hoài.
The main characters in the story are various insects, especially a brave cricket, along with ants, frogs, spiders, grasshoppers, and many other tiny creatures. I first read this book when I was in primary school because it was one of the most widely-read (được đọc rộng rãi – read and enjoyed by a large number of people) children's books in Vietnam. Even today, it remains a timeless classic (tác phẩm kinh điển vượt thời gian – a book that remains popular and valuable for generations) that many parents encourage their children to read.
What impresses me most is its thought-provoking (gợi nhiều suy ngẫm – making people think deeply) storyline. At the beginning, Dế Mèn is an overconfident (quá tự tin – excessively confident) young cricket who behaves arrogantly and even causes the tragic death of his neighbor, Dế Choắt. This heartbreaking incident becomes a life-changing (thay đổi cuộc đời – having a major impact on someone's life) lesson that completely transforms his personality. Instead of remaining selfish, he gradually becomes more compassionate, responsible, and willing to help others during his adventurous journey. I think this powerful character development teaches young readers that everyone makes mistakes, but what truly matters is learning from them and becoming a better person.>> 🔥 Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR
Another reason why I absolutely love this book is its masterfully-crafted (được xây dựng bậc thầy – created with exceptional skill and quality) world of animals. Rather than simply entertaining children, the author uses insects to convey (truyền tải – communicate an idea or message) meaningful life lessons about friendship, courage, humility, and responsibility. The vivid descriptions make every character seem incredibly lifelike, while the action-packed adventures keep readers on the edge of their seats (hồi hộp – feeling excited and anxious about what will happen next). Even though I first read it years ago, I still remember many scenes because they left a lasting impression (ấn tượng lâu dài – an effect that remains in someone's memory for a long time) on me.
To sum up, I think The Adventures of Cricket is much more than an ordinary children's book. It is an inspiring story that combines exciting adventures with valuable moral lessons, and I believe it deserves its reputation as one of Vietnam's greatest literary works for young readers.

IV. Part 3
1. Should schools teach children about animals?
Yes, I strongly believe schools should teach children about animals because it helps them become more environmentally conscious (nhận thức về môi trường - aware of environmental issues and responsibilities) from an early age.
When students understand wildlife, ecosystems, and biodiversity, they are more likely to develop long-term stewardship (tinh thần gìn giữ lâu dài - the responsibility of protecting something for future generations) rather than treating nature carelessly.
For example, students who participate in school-organized visits to nature reserves often become more interested in protecting endangered species and reducing plastic waste.
As a result, environmental education can shape responsible citizens instead of people who only care about their own convenience.
Another reason is that learning about animals broadens children's knowledge beyond textbooks and develops their critical-thinking skills (kỹ năng tư duy phản biện - the ability to analyze and evaluate information logically).
Instead of simply memorizing scientific facts, students can discuss animal behaviour, food chains, and conservation challenges from different perspectives.
For instance, they may debate whether zoos should continue operating or whether wildlife sanctuaries provide a better solution.
Consequently, animal-related lessons encourage both intellectual development and compassion toward living creatures.
New Vocabulary
1. environmentally conscious (adj) – nhận thức về môi trường – aware of environmental issues and acting responsibly toward nature.
- Synonyms: eco-aware, environmentally responsible, green-minded
- Antonyms: careless, wasteful, indifferent
- Example: "Schools help students become environmentally conscious from an early age."
2. long-term stewardship (n) – tinh thần gìn giữ lâu dài – the responsibility of protecting something for future generations.
- Synonyms: guardianship, preservation, conservation
- Antonyms: neglect, exploitation, destruction
- Example: "Students develop long-term stewardship rather than treating nature carelessly."
3. critical-thinking skills (n) – kỹ năng tư duy phản biện – the ability to analyze information logically.
- Synonyms: analytical ability, reasoning skills, logical thinking
- Antonyms: blind acceptance, irrationality, poor judgment
- Example: "Animal-related lessons improve critical-thinking skills."
2. Some people think pets should not be kept in cities. What do you think?
I disagree because pets can significantly improve people's emotional well-being (sức khỏe tinh thần - a person's emotional and psychological health) even in densely populated cities.
Many urban residents experience work-related stress, and interacting with animals provides comfort as well as companionship after a demanding day.
For example, many office workers enjoy walking their dogs in public parks to relax and unwind after work.
Therefore, responsible pet ownership can enhance the quality of urban life rather than diminish it.
However, pet owners should demonstrate a strong sense of civic responsibility (trách nhiệm công dân - responsibility towards the community and society).
They need to clean up after their pets, prevent excessive noise, and ensure that animals receive proper veterinary care.
For instance, irresponsible owners who allow aggressive dogs to roam freely can create safety concerns for neighbours.
Overall, pets are suitable for cities as long as owners behave responsibly and respect public spaces.>> 🔥 IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

3. Many people regard pets as members of their family. What do you think?
I completely understand this viewpoint because pets often provide unconditional affection (tình cảm vô điều kiện - love and care without expecting anything in return).
Unlike many human relationships, pets remain loyal regardless of a person's appearance, income, or social status.
For example, many elderly people consider their dogs or cats their closest companions after retirement.
As a result, emotional bonds with pets can become as strong as those with family members.
In addition, pets often contribute to a household's overall well-being (phúc lợi tổng thể - the general health and happiness of a family).
They encourage family members to exercise together, reduce loneliness, and create shared daily routines.
For instance, walking a dog every evening gives parents and children more opportunities to spend quality time together.
Therefore, treating pets as family members is understandable as long as owners also fulfil their responsibilities.
New Vocabulary

4. Do many people keep pets in your country?
Yes, keeping pets has become increasingly common because living standards have improved and more people can afford pet-related expenses (chi phí liên quan đến thú cưng - the costs of raising pets).
Nowadays, many families invest in nutritious food, grooming services, and regular veterinary check-ups for their animals.
For example, pet cafés, grooming salons, and veterinary clinics have become increasingly popular in large cities.
This trend suggests that pets are now viewed as valuable companions instead of merely household animals.
Another reason is that social media has encouraged a pet-friendly lifestyle (lối sống thân thiện với thú cưng - a lifestyle that welcomes and supports pets).
People enjoy sharing photos and videos of their pets, which inspires others to adopt animals as well.
For instance, many influencers regularly post entertaining content featuring their dogs or cats, attracting millions of followers.
Consequently, pet ownership continues to grow across different age groups in my country.
New Vocabulary
1. pet-related expenses (n) – chi phí liên quan đến thú cưng – costs associated with owning pets.

- Antonyms: free care, no expenditure, cost-free ownership

2. pet-friendly lifestyle (n) – lối sống thân thiện với thú cưng – a lifestyle that accommodates pets.
- Synonyms: animal-friendly lifestyle, pet-oriented lifestyle, companion-animal lifestyle
- Antonyms: pet-free lifestyle, animal-hostile lifestyle, restrictive lifestyle
- Example: "Social media promotes a pet-friendly lifestyle."
5. What are the advantages of keeping a pet?
One major advantage is that pets provide valuable emotional companionship (sự đồng hành về mặt tinh thần - emotional support through companionship).
They help reduce feelings of loneliness and provide comfort during stressful or difficult periods.
For example, students preparing for important exams often feel more relaxed after spending time with their pets.
Therefore, animals can positively influence people's mental health.
Another benefit is that pets encourage owners to adopt a health-conscious routine (thói quen chú trọng sức khỏe - a routine that promotes good health).
Dog owners, in particular, need to walk their pets every day, which increases their physical activity.
For instance, many people begin exercising regularly simply because they need to take their dogs outside.
As a result, keeping a pet benefits both physical fitness and emotional well-being.
New Vocabulary

- Synonyms: comfort, companionship, emotional support
- Antonyms: isolation, loneliness, abandonment

- Synonyms: healthy lifestyle, wellness routine, fitness-oriented habit
- Antonyms: sedentary lifestyle, unhealthy habit, inactive routine
- Example: "Pets encourage a health-conscious routine."
6. Why do people always tell children stories with animals?
One reason is that animal characters make stories more engaging and relatable (hấp dẫn và dễ đồng cảm - interesting and easy for children to connect with).
Children often find talking animals entertaining because they stimulate imagination while simplifying complex ideas.
For example, stories about clever foxes or hardworking ants teach valuable lessons in a memorable way.
Consequently, children are more likely to remember the moral of the story.
Another reason is that animals can represent different human personalities through symbolic representation (sự biểu trưng - using symbols to represent ideas or characteristics).
A lion often symbolizes courage, while a rabbit may represent timidity or caution.
For instance, fables frequently use different animals to illustrate honesty, perseverance, or kindness without directly criticizing people.
Therefore, animal stories are an effective educational tool because they combine entertainment with meaningful life lessons.
