Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I encouraged my close friend to do something she was very reluctant to try, which ended up being a genuinely life-changing (thay đổi cuộc đời – something that has a major impact on someone’s life in both English and Vietnamese context) experience for her.

The person I encouraged was one of my university classmates, who is quite introverted and often avoids public speaking situations. I encouraged her to apply for a university debating competition.

At first, she reacted with strong hesitation and even self-doubt, saying she was not “good enough” and would probably embarrass herself in front of others.

The reason I encouraged her was because I could see she was stuck in her comfort zone (vùng an toàn – a psychological state where a person feels safe and avoids risk in both English and Vietnamese), and I genuinely believed that stepping out of it could unlock her potential.>> 🔥 Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

From my perspective, there were two main reasons why this encouragement mattered. Firstly, it was a career-defining opportunity (cơ hội mang tính quyết định sự nghiệp – an opportunity that can significantly shape someone’s future career path). I explained to her that participating in such a high-stakes environment (môi trường áp lực cao – a situation where outcomes are very important and pressure is intense) would not only improve her CV but also act as a stepping stone (bước đệm – an initial stage that helps progress toward a bigger goal) for future academic and professional opportunities. For example, I shared how a senior student I knew had landed an internship simply because of debating experience, which convinced her to reconsider.

Secondly, I focused on the confidence-building (xây dựng sự tự tin – the process of increasing someone’s self-belief in English and Vietnamese) aspect. I told her that overcoming self-doubt (sự tự nghi ngờ – lack of confidence in one’s abilities) would be more valuable than winning itself. I used a bit of persuasive encouragement (sự khích lệ mang tính thuyết phục – convincing someone through logical and emotional support), reminding her that growth often happens outside the comfort zone. Eventually, she agreed, and although she was extremely nervous at first, she later admitted that the experience completely transformed her mindset.

To sum up, I encouraged her mainly for two reasons: first, to help her seize a meaningful opportunity that could bring a long-term payoff (lợi ích dài hạn – benefits that appear over an extended period) in her academic journey, and second, to help her overcome fear and build inner strength. In the end, she told me that this experience pushed her to become a more confident and proactive person.

IV. Part 3

Is the role of a leader important in a group?

Yes, the role of a leader is absolutely crucial in any group because it provides strategic direction (định hướng chiến lược / the ability to set long-term plans and goals) that keeps all members aligned. Without this, a group may easily become disorganized and lose focus on shared objectives. For example, in a university project team, a leader helps divide tasks and set deadlines so that everyone works efficiently. In addition, leaders create cohesive teamwork (làm việc nhóm gắn kết / a strong sense of unity and collaboration within a group) which improves overall productivity. This is because they can mediate conflicts and maintain harmony among members. For instance, in sports teams, captains often resolve disagreements to maintain group spirit. Therefore, a leader acts as the backbone of coordination. Ultimately, effective leadership ensures both structure and motivation within the group.

Yes, another important role of leaders is providing emotional reassurance (sự trấn an tinh thần / the act of reducing anxiety and increasing confidence in others) during challenging situations. This helps members stay motivated even when facing pressure or failure. For example, during exam preparation, a class leader may encourage peers to stay calm and focused. Moreover, leaders often demonstrate decision-making accountability (trách nhiệm ra quyết định / being responsible for choices and their consequences) which builds trust within the group. When a leader makes transparent decisions, members are more likely to follow willingly. For instance, in business teams, managers who explain their decisions clearly often gain stronger employee commitment. As a result, leadership becomes essential not only for organization but also for psychological stability. In conclusion, leaders are indispensable in both practical and emotional aspects of group performance.

How can leaders encourage employees?

Leaders can encourage employees by creating a supportive work environment (môi trường làm việc hỗ trợ / a workplace that provides assistance and positive conditions for employees) where individuals feel valued and respected. This boosts morale and increases productivity significantly. For example, companies that offer flexible working hours often see higher employee satisfaction. In addition, leaders should use performance-based recognition (sự công nhận dựa trên hiệu suất / rewarding employees based on their achievements and contributions) to motivate staff. When employees feel their efforts are acknowledged, they tend to work harder. For instance, bonuses or public praise can increase workplace enthusiasm. Therefore, encouragement is closely linked to recognition and fairness. Ultimately, a positive atmosphere drives long-term employee commitment.

Another effective way is through goal-oriented communication (giao tiếp định hướng mục tiêu / clear communication focused on objectives and expectations) which helps employees understand what is expected of them. This reduces confusion and improves efficiency. For example, managers who clearly explain monthly targets help staff stay focused. Moreover, leaders can offer professional development opportunities (cơ hội phát triển nghề nghiệp / chances to improve skills and career growth) to inspire employees. This not only enhances competence but also builds loyalty toward the organization. For instance, training workshops often make employees feel invested in their future. As a result, encouragement becomes both practical and motivational. In short, effective leadership combines communication and growth opportunities to inspire employees.

When should parents encourage their children?

Parents should encourage their children during formative developmental stages (giai đoạn phát triển hình thành / early periods when personality and skills are being shaped) because this is when confidence is built. Positive reinforcement at this stage helps children develop a strong sense of self-esteem. For example, praising a child for small academic achievements can boost motivation. In addition, encouragement is important during challenging life transitions (giai đoạn chuyển đổi khó khăn / periods of significant change such as exams or school transitions). These moments often cause stress and uncertainty in children. For instance, moving to a new school can be overwhelming, and parental support helps children adapt faster. Therefore, timely encouragement plays a crucial psychological role. Ultimately, early and consistent support shapes long-term confidence.

Parents should also encourage children when they show effort-driven progress (tiến bộ dựa trên nỗ lực / improvement resulting from hard work rather than natural talent) because this reinforces a growth mindset. It teaches children that persistence is more important than perfection. For example, a child struggling with mathematics should be praised for effort rather than just results. Moreover, encouragement is vital during decision-making independence (sự độc lập trong ra quyết định / ability to make personal choices confidently) development. This helps children become more responsible and self-reliant. For instance, allowing teenagers to choose their hobbies builds autonomy. As a result, encouragement fosters both confidence and independence. In conclusion, parental support is essential at every stage of a child’s emotional and cognitive growth.>> 🔥 IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?
