    • 2 lessons drawn /learned from this experience:

      • Main idea 1: That day I learned the importance of emotional control (the ability to tame your anger and not let it cloud your judgement)

      • Main idea 2: Being able to put yourself together and letting things slide are crucial skills in today’s hectic world

IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

Today, I want to recount a particularly intense moment amongst my friends when we found ourselves embroiled in a heated argument. The discussion centered around whether Vietnam should implement a lockdown amidst the new wave of coronavirus cases.

The crux of the argument lay in opposing viewpoints: A staunchly advocated for a strict lockdown as the primary measure to curb the escalating cases. On the contrary, B vehemently opposed the idea, arguing that lockdowns inflict significant damage on the economy without effectively addressing the root issue.

As the debate unfolded, tempers flared, and rational discourse dwindled. Both A and B became increasingly entrenched in their positions, with little room for listening or understanding each other's perspectives.

Despite attempts from myself and my husband to intervene and diffuse the escalating tension, our pleas fell on deaf ears. The fervor of the argument had gripped them so tightly that they remained oblivious to our efforts to restore calm.>> IELTS TUTOR có hướng dẫn kĩ SỬA BÀI IELTS WRITING TASK 2 ĐỀ THI THẬT NGÀY 22/8/2020 của HS IELTS TUTOR đạt 6.5 Writing

Reflecting on this experience, I am struck by two important lessons that emerged:

Firstly, I realized the paramount importance of emotional control. Amidst the heat of the moment, it becomes all too easy to succumb to anger and allow it to cloud one's judgment. However, maintaining composure is essential to fostering constructive dialogue and reaching meaningful resolutions.

Secondly, I learned the value of letting go and maintaining perspective in the face of intense disagreements. In today's fast-paced world, where conflicts abound, the ability to navigate turbulent situations with grace and equanimity is an invaluable skill.

Overall, while the argument may have been tumultuous and emotionally charged, it served as a poignant reminder of the significance of emotional regulation and resilience in fostering harmonious relationships and navigating life's complexities.

V. Part 3.

2.1. What do you do if you disagree with someone?

When I disagree with someone (mâu thuẫn với ai đó – to have a different opinion), I usually try to express my viewpoint in a calm and respectful tone to avoid escalating the situation, which helps me maintain a constructive dialogue (cuộc đối thoại mang tính xây dựng – a conversation aimed at solving problems), especially in professional settings. For instance, during a university project, I disagreed with a teammate about our presentation structure, but instead of confronting him aggressively, I showed data from similar presentations to justify my choice. This approach not only convinced him but also improved our team’s outcome.
Ultimately, I believe the key is to disagree without being disagreeable, as the goal is to solve the issue, not win the argument.

2.3. Who do you think should teach children to respect their teacher?

I believe that both parents and schools share the responsibility (chia sẻ trách nhiệm – to equally take care of something) in teaching children to respect their teachers, as respect begins at home but must be reinforced at school.
At home, parents should act as role models (hình mẫu – people whose behavior is imitated) by showing appreciation for educators and encouraging polite behavior.
Meanwhile, schools should embed character education (giáo dục nhân cách – teaching moral and ethical values) into the curriculum to cultivate respectful attitudes. For example, teachers can integrate moral storytelling or team-building activities to promote empathy and cooperation.>> tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?
To me, fostering this virtue requires consistent reinforcement (sự củng cố liên tục – repeated support from multiple parties) from both the family and the education system.

2.4. What disagreements do parents and children usually have?

Most disagreements between parents and children revolve around academic performance (thành tích học tập – how well a student does in school) and lifestyle choices (lối sống – how someone chooses to live), particularly in adolescence.
Firstly, parents tend to push for better grades, while children may feel overwhelmed or pressured by these lofty expectations (kỳ vọng cao – high and sometimes unrealistic hopes). For instance, many teenagers want to pursue creative careers like music or art, but their parents insist on traditional paths such as medicine or engineering.
Another common issue is screen time usage, where parents limit digital device use while kids argue for their freedom.
Such conflicts often stem from a generation gap (khoảng cách thế hệ – differences in opinions and values between age groups) and lack of effective communication.

2.5. Why do some people avoid arguing with others?

Some people avoid arguments because they value harmony over confrontation (sự hài hòa hơn là sự đối đầu – preferring peace instead of conflict), especially in cultures that emphasize group cohesion. They may also fear damaging relationships (làm tổn hại các mối quan hệ – causing emotional distance or conflict) if the disagreement becomes too personal. For example, in close-knit workplaces, employees might suppress dissenting opinions to maintain a peaceful atmosphere.

Additionally, introverted individuals may lack the confidence to express disagreement, especially in public. Cultural upbringing also plays a role, as in many Asian societies, expressing disagreement openly is seen as disrespectful or disruptive.

2.6. How do we show respect to others when we disagree with them?

Firstly, we show respect in disagreements by actively listening (lắng nghe tích cực – giving full attention and not interrupting) and acknowledging the other person’s perspective, even when we disagree. Using polite language and a non-confrontational tone (giọng điệu không gây hấn – speaking calmly without provoking others) helps to keep the conversation civil. For example, instead of saying “You’re wrong,” we can say “I see your point, but I have a different opinion.”
Secondly, by asking clarifying questions, we create room for mutual understanding and show genuine interest in solving the issue. Even when debates get intense, keeping our voice steady and avoiding emotionally charged words (tránh dùng từ ngữ mang cảm xúc mạnh – not using offensive or aggressive language) is crucial.
