IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I made a decision to wait for something important, which turned out to be a valuable lesson in patience and self-control.

It happened a few months ago when my long-standing (long-standing – lâu dài, tồn tại từ lâu – existing or continuing for a long time) laptop suddenly stopped working. As a university student who relies heavily on technology for assignments and online research, this was nothing short of a disaster. I discovered that the laptop malfunctioned due to my younger brother’s careless behavior (careless behavior – hành động bất cẩn – a lack of attention or thought about what one is doing), which frustrated me to no end.

Initially, I considered buying a new one immediately, but I eventually decided to hold off (hold off – trì hoãn – to delay doing something) for a month, as Black Friday was just around the corner. I knew that major online platforms like Lazada and Shopee would offer massive markdowns (massive markdowns – giảm giá lớn – significant reductions in price), and I wanted to take advantage of those once-a-year bargains (once-a-year bargains – những món hời chỉ có một lần trong năm – sales that happen only once a year and offer great value).>> tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

Waiting, however, wasn’t as easy as I had expected. The first few days were especially challenging. I felt disconnected from my friends since I couldn’t use messaging apps or attend online lectures. I had numerous second thoughts (numerous second thoughts – rất nhiều lần phân vân – many times of reconsideration) about whether I should have just bought a new device instantly. But deep down, I trusted my decision and tried to stay level-headed (level-headed – điềm tĩnh – calm and sensible), reminding myself that delayed gratification (delayed gratification – sự hoãn lại sự hài lòng – resisting an immediate reward in favor of a later, often greater one) often leads to better outcomes.

Surprisingly, over time, I got used to life without a laptop. I started engaging in outdoor activities, spending quality time (quality time – thời gian chất lượng – time spent giving someone one’s full attention) with my family, and even revisiting hobbies like reading and playing badminton. My parents noticed the change and said they hadn’t seen me this relaxed in ages.

When the sale finally arrived, I managed to get an excellent laptop at a heavily discounted price (heavily discounted price – mức giá giảm mạnh – a much lower price than usual). The moment it was delivered to my doorstep, I let out a huge sigh of relief (huge sigh of relief – thở phào nhẹ nhõm – a deep breath expressing that a stressful situation is over). It felt incredibly rewarding, and I came to realize that being patient is often the key to wise decision-making.

IV. Part 3.

1. Why do some people like a slow-paced life?

Some people enjoy a slow-paced lifestyle (lối sống chậm rãi – a way of life that is relaxed and not hurried) because it allows them to savor the moment (tận hưởng khoảnh khắc – fully enjoy the present without rushing) and reduce mental stress, which helps them maintain better emotional balance, especially in a high-pressure environment (môi trường áp lực cao – situations where one is constantly under stress); for instance, retirees or remote workers often choose the countryside to escape the fast-paced urban chaos (sự hỗn loạn của cuộc sống thành thị nhanh – the busy and stressful life in the city) and focus on quality time with loved ones or personal development.

Some individuals also find that slowing down promotes mindfulness (sống chậm giúp sống tỉnh thức – being present and aware of the moment), which in turn increases their sense of gratitude and contentment with life, as seen in the popularity of minimalist living (lối sống tối giản – a lifestyle that emphasizes simplicity) among young professionals who are burned out from rat race (cuộc chạy đua mưu sinh – a competitive and exhausting lifestyle).

2. Is being patient good for people? Why?

Yes, being patient is highly beneficial because it fosters emotional resilience (sự kiên cường cảm xúc – the ability to stay calm and positive during adversity), allowing individuals to manage setbacks without becoming overwhelmed, such as students patiently preparing for IELTS rather than seeking quick fixes.

Moreover, patience nurtures long-term goal attainment (việc đạt được mục tiêu dài hạn – successfully reaching future objectives) as it teaches people to stay consistent and committed even when instant gratification (sự thỏa mãn tức thời – the desire for immediate pleasure) is tempting, which is why high-achieving professionals often describe patience as a cornerstone of their success.

3. Are people less patient now than people in the past?

Yes, people nowadays tend to be more impatient due to the instant-access culture (văn hóa truy cập tức thời – the norm of getting everything immediately via technology), where everything from food to entertainment is available at the touch of a button, making it harder for individuals to tolerate delays.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

In contrast, people in the past were more used to delayed rewards (phần thưởng bị trì hoãn – benefits that come after a long time), such as waiting for hand-written letters or saving money over months to purchase an item, which cultivated a stronger sense of discipline (ý thức kỷ luật – the habit of self-control and responsibility) and patience in daily life.
