IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:
Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I gave a helping hand to a child who was struggling with English.
It happened about a year ago, when the son of a long-time friend (bạn lâu năm – a friend you've known for many years) of mine was about to take a high-stakes exam (kỳ thi quan trọng – an important test that can have a big impact on someone’s future). Unfortunately, the boy was noticeably underprepared (chuẩn bị kém thấy rõ – clearly not ready) in English, which was one of the core subjects (môn học chính – a main or essential subject at school).
My friend, being a single parent (phụ huynh đơn thân – a mother or father raising a child alone), was completely unaware (hoàn toàn không biết – having no idea or knowledge about something) of his son's difficulties. He found out only a month before the exam, and he was devastated (đau khổ – extremely sad or upset). He attempted to arrange last-minute tutoring sessions (buổi học kèm gấp – extra lessons organized close to an exam), but they all fell through due to scheduling conflicts or unavailability of good tutors.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR
Despite my own jam-packed schedule (lịch trình kín mít – a very busy timetable), I decided to step in. After all, a friend in need is a friend indeed. I started devoting a few hours every evening to teach his son English. I focused on basic grammar, vocabulary-building, and comprehension skills. I even gave him some easy-to-follow grammar books (sách ngữ pháp dễ hiểu – grammar books that are simple and clear) that I had used during my university days.
To make learning more engaging, I also designed child-friendly exercises (bài tập phù hợp với trẻ em – educational activities suitable for a child) and short quizzes that helped him feel a sense of progress. Over time, I noticed his self-confidence skyrocketed (sự tự tin tăng vọt – his belief in himself increased rapidly), and he became much more motivated and focused.
When the exam results came out, he had passed with flying colours (đạt kết quả xuất sắc – very high scores). I still remember how my friend thanked me from the bottom of his heart (cảm ơn chân thành – expressed deep gratitude) and how proud I felt. It was a genuinely heartwarming experience (trải nghiệm ấm lòng – something that makes you feel emotionally moved), and it reminded me of the value of helping others without expecting anything in return.

IV. Part 3
❓ Why should we help our neighbors?
Helping neighbors is essential because it fosters a sense of community (foster a sense of community – thúc đẩy tinh thần cộng đồng – to encourage the growth of a strong and united group). When people look out for one another, they create a tight-knit neighborhood (tight-knit neighborhood – khu dân cư gắn bó chặt chẽ – a community where people are close and supportive). For instance, when someone helps an elderly neighbor carry groceries, it builds trust and warmth. Secondly, helping neighbors can also enhance emotional well-being (enhance emotional well-being – cải thiện sức khỏe tinh thần – to improve mental health and emotional state). Acts of kindness give people a sense of purpose and reduce feelings of loneliness. For example, during the pandemic, many people felt isolated, but neighbors who supported each other felt more connected. This simple act of giving can lead to a more harmonious living environment (harmonious living environment – môi trường sống hòa thuận – a place where people coexist peacefully). In the long run, strong neighborhood bonds lead to safer and happier communities.
❓ How do schools teach students to help others?
Schools often teach students to help others through extracurricular programs (extracurricular programs – chương trình ngoại khóa – activities outside the standard curriculum). These programs encourage students to volunteer at shelters or participate in community clean-ups, which promote prosocial behavior (prosocial behavior – hành vi vị tha – actions intended to benefit others). For instance, at my high school, we were required to do 10 hours of volunteer work each semester. Moreover, schools integrate kindness into the moral education curriculum (moral education curriculum – chương trình giáo dục đạo đức – lessons that teach students right and wrong behavior). Through role-playing or storytelling, students learn the value of compassion and empathy. This method helps children internalize good behavior rather than simply following rules. By instilling social responsibility (instilling social responsibility – truyền đạt tinh thần trách nhiệm xã hội – teaching a sense of duty to help society), students grow into conscientious citizens. Ultimately, schools act as a springboard for shaping students into helpful, respectful individuals.
❓ Who benefits more from volunteering – the helper or the one being helped?
While both parties gain something, I believe the helper benefits more in the long run. Volunteering brings a sense of achievement and builds personal fulfillment (personal fulfillment – sự thỏa mãn cá nhân – the satisfaction from doing meaningful activities). For example, when I taught English to underprivileged children, their smiles gave me more joy than I ever expected. Secondly, helpers often develop valuable soft skills (valuable soft skills – kỹ năng mềm hữu ích – non-technical skills like communication or leadership). Volunteering helps people become more patient, empathetic, and organized. These qualities are not only rewarding emotionally but also professionally useful. On the other hand, the recipient might only benefit temporarily (recipient – người nhận – the person receiving help), like receiving food or tutoring. So while both sides gain, the helper’s long-term personal growth (long-term personal growth – sự phát triển cá nhân lâu dài – gradual self-improvement over time) often outweighs short-term assistance.
❓ What should schools do to raise students’ awareness of volunteering?
To raise awareness, schools should make volunteering a mandatory part of the curriculum (mandatory part of the curriculum – phần bắt buộc của chương trình học – something that all students must do as part of their education). When students are required to participate in social work, they are more likely to understand the value it brings. For instance, some schools assign students to work in elderly homes or clean local parks as part of their coursework. Another effective method is to invite inspiring guest speakers (inspiring guest speakers – diễn giả truyền cảm hứng – people who share motivational stories to influence students). These talks can spark interest and motivate students to take action. A local volunteer who overcame hardships can truly strike a chord with students (strike a chord – gây cảm xúc mạnh – to deeply resonate with someone emotionally). Additionally, schools should recognize students’ efforts through certificates of appreciation (certificates of appreciation – giấy chứng nhận công nhận – official documents that honor one’s effort). These gestures show that volunteering is both meaningful and valued.
❓ Are there people in your country who take advantage of volunteering, or do most do it out of goodwill?
To be honest, I believe most people volunteer out of genuine goodwill (genuine goodwill – thiện chí chân thành – honest and kind intentions), but there are a few bad apples (a few bad apples – một vài cá nhân xấu – a small number of people who spoil a group’s reputation). Some individuals join volunteer programs just to boost their resume or gain social recognition (social recognition – sự công nhận xã hội – being praised or admired by others). For example, I’ve seen people who barely contributed yet took all the credit in group projects. However, these cases are quite rare, and the majority of volunteers are truly dedicated. Their passion and hard work speak volumes about their character (speak volumes – nói lên rất nhiều điều – to show a lot about someone’s nature). At the end of the day, the system can never be perfect. But we shouldn’t let a few selfish motives overshadow the selfless acts (selfless acts – hành động vị tha – actions done without personal gain) of the majority. The focus should be on the positive impact rather than the exceptions.
