IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

The T-shirt I want to talk about holds a special place in my heart as it was a birthday present from my mum when I turned 18, and I've cherished it ever since.

This T-shirt is special to me for many reasons.

Firstly, what sets this T-shirt apart is its versatility because it effortlessly complements any outfit whether it's paired with a skirt, jeans, or even overalls; it always adds a touch of style. I've even worn it as an outer layer during winter, and it surprisingly keeps me warm.>> IELTS TUTOR hướng dẫn PHÂN TÍCH ĐỀ THI 30/5/2020 IELTS WRITING TASK 2 (kèm bài sửa HS đạt 6.5)

Secondly, what truly makes this T-shirt significant is the sentiment behind it. It's not just any clothing item; it's a symbol of love from my mum. Whenever I wear it, I feel a sense of connection to her, almost like she's with me, cheering me on. No matter how many T-shirts I may own in the future, none will hold the same value as this one. It's not about fashion trends; it's about the love and thoughtfulness that went into choosing it.

Overall, this T-shirt isn't just a piece of clothing; it's a treasured possession that encapsulates love, memories, and comfort. I'll continue to wear it proudly, knowing that it's more than just fabric—it's a connection to someone I adore.

IV. Part 3.

1. Why do people buy things they don’t need?

Many people purchase unnecessary items mainly because they want to show off (khoe khoang – to display one’s possessions or status proudly) their wealth or social status. In today’s materialistic society, people often believe that expensive goods reflect their success. For instance, some individuals buy luxury cars even when they already have functional ones just to look affluent. Another reason is the psychological gratification (sự thỏa mãn tâm lý – the feeling of satisfaction derived from emotional needs) that shopping provides. When people feel stressed or bored, buying something new temporarily boosts their mood. For example, some people go shopping online after a long day at work as a form of emotional release. This behavior, however, often leads to impulse buying (mua sắm bốc đồng – the act of purchasing without planning). Therefore, it’s not a real necessity but a way to satisfy emotional or social desires.

New vocab:

  • show off (khoe khoang)
    Synonyms: flaunt, boast, parade
    Antonyms: conceal, hide, suppress
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: Many people purchase unnecessary items mainly because they want to show off their wealth.

  • psychological gratification (sự thỏa mãn tâm lý)
Synonyms: emotional satisfaction, mental relief, pleasure
    Antonyms: frustration, dissatisfaction, distress
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: Another reason is the psychological gratification that shopping provides.

  • impulse buying (mua sắm bốc đồng)
Synonyms: spontaneous purchase, unplanned buying, impulsive spending
Antonyms: planned purchase, calculated decision, rational shopping
IELTS TUTOR xét ví dụ: This behavior often leads to impulse buying.

Difficult grammar:

  • “Even when they already have functional ones” → Mệnh đề nhượng bộ (Concessive clause).
Ngay cả khi họ đã có cái xe hoạt động tốt.

  • “This behavior, however, often leads to impulse buying.” → Mệnh đề xen giữa dùng dấu phẩy và trạng từ “however” (Conjunctive adverb).
Tuy nhiên, hành vi này thường dẫn đến mua sắm bốc đồng.

2. Why is this trend common today?

This trend has become widespread because of aggressive marketing (chiến lược tiếp thị mạnh mẽ – promotional strategies that heavily persuade consumers) by big companies. Advertisements constantly remind consumers of what they “need,” even when they don’t. For example, phone brands release new models every year to push people to upgrade unnecessarily. Moreover, social media plays a vital role in shaping consumer behavior through influencer endorsement (sự chứng thực của người có ảnh hưởng – when famous individuals promote products). Many young people buy products recommended by their favorite influencers without evaluating their actual usefulness. This creates a consumerist mindset (tư duy tiêu dùng – a belief that happiness comes from buying goods) that fuels endless spending. Hence, digital platforms have made this phenomenon more prevalent than ever before.

New vocab:

  • aggressive marketing (chiến lược tiếp thị mạnh mẽ)
Synonyms: intensive advertising, pushy promotion, vigorous marketing
Antonyms: subtle marketing, soft selling, mild advertising

  • influencer endorsement (sự chứng thực của người có ảnh hưởng)
Synonyms: celebrity approval, social media promotion, public backing
Antonyms: disapproval, rejection, opposition>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

  • consumerist mindset (tư duy tiêu dùng)
Synonyms: materialistic mentality, consumption culture, shopping-oriented thinking
Antonyms: minimalist attitude, frugal mindset, conservative outlook

Difficult grammar:

  • “Even when they don’t” → Mệnh đề rút gọn (reduced clause).
Ngay cả khi họ không cần.

  • “This creates a consumerist mindset that fuels endless spending.” → Mệnh đề quan hệ xác định (defining relative clause).
Điều này tạo ra tư duy tiêu dùng thúc đẩy chi tiêu vô tận.

3. Are advertisements good for consumers?

Advertisements are a double-edged sword (con dao hai lưỡi – something that has both positive and negative effects) for consumers. On one hand, they inform people about new products and help them make better purchasing decisions. For example, ads for eco-friendly goods can raise awareness about sustainable lifestyles. On the other hand, most ads are designed to manipulate (thao túng – to control or influence someone cleverly and unfairly) consumers into buying things they do not truly need. Companies often exaggerate product features to create a false sense of necessity (cảm giác cần thiết giả tạo – the illusion that something is essential). This leads to overspending and disappointment. Therefore, while advertisements can educate, their main purpose remains profit-oriented.

New vocab:

  • double-edged sword (con dao hai lưỡi)
Synonyms: mixed blessing, paradox, twofold effect
    Antonyms: pure benefit, advantage, boon

  • manipulate (thao túng)
    Synonyms: exploit, deceive, control
    Antonyms: assist, support, guide

  • false sense of necessity (cảm giác cần thiết giả tạo)
Synonyms: illusion of need, fake urgency, deceptive importance
Antonyms: genuine necessity, real need, authentic demand

Difficult grammar:

  • “While advertisements can educate, their main purpose remains profit-oriented.” → Mệnh đề nhượng bộ dùng “while”.
Mặc dù quảng cáo có thể mang tính giáo dục, mục đích chính của chúng vẫn là lợi nhuận.

4. Do friends influence your shopping habits?

Absolutely, friends have a substantial influence (ảnh hưởng đáng kể – strong effect or impact) on my shopping behavior. When I see my friends buying something trendy, I’m often tempted to follow suit. This is especially common among teenagers who value peer approval. Furthermore, group activities like shopping together often lead to peer pressure (áp lực từ bạn bè – the influence to conform to others’ behavior). For instance, a person might buy an expensive outfit just to fit in with their group. Such influence is both social and emotional, making it hard to resist. Consequently, friends can easily shape one’s spending patterns, sometimes even leading to overspending.

New vocab:

  • substantial influence (ảnh hưởng đáng kể)
Synonyms: significant impact, strong effect, considerable sway
Antonyms: minor effect, negligible impact, small influence

  • peer pressure (áp lực từ bạn bè)
Synonyms: social influence, group pressure, peer influence
    Antonyms: independence, self-determination, autonomy

Difficult grammar:

  • “When I see my friends buying something trendy, I’m often tempted to follow suit.” → Mệnh đề thời gian (time clause) + cụm động từ “follow suit” (bắt chước).
Khi tôi thấy bạn bè mua đồ hợp thời, tôi thường làm theo.

5. Does shopping benefit a country’s economy?

Yes, shopping plays a crucial role (vai trò quan trọng – an essential or decisive part) in boosting a nation’s economy. Increased consumer spending encourages companies to expand production and hire more workers. For instance, during holiday seasons, retail sales surge and significantly raise GDP. Additionally, shopping stimulates tax revenue (nguồn thuế thu – money collected by the government from sales), which can be used for public services. The more people spend, the more financial resources the government gains. Thus, consumer behavior directly contributes to national economic growth and development.

New vocab:

  • crucial role (vai trò quan trọng)
Synonyms: vital part, essential function, key position
Antonyms: minor role, insignificant part, trivial position

  • tax revenue (nguồn thuế thu)
Synonyms: public income, government receipts, fiscal revenue
Antonyms: tax evasion, fiscal deficit, income loss

Difficult grammar:

  • “The more people spend, the more financial resources the government gains.” → Cấu trúc so sánh kép (comparative structure).
Càng nhiều người chi tiêu, chính phủ càng thu được nhiều nguồn tài chính.

6. Why do people enjoy online shopping?

People enjoy online shopping primarily for its unparalleled convenience (sự tiện lợi vô song – unmatched ease and comfort). They can browse and purchase items from the comfort of their homes without time constraints. For example, many people shop late at night, something impossible in physical stores. Another reason is the wide variety (đa dạng phong phú – a large range of options) available online. E-commerce platforms allow customers to compare prices and read reviews instantly. This not only saves time but also empowers them to make more informed decisions. As a result, online shopping has become a dominant trend (xu hướng chủ đạo – the most influential or popular pattern) in modern consumer culture.

New vocab:

  • unparalleled convenience (sự tiện lợi vô song)
Synonyms: exceptional ease, unmatched comfort, supreme accessibility
Antonyms: difficulty, inconvenience, trouble>> IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

Antonyms: limited choice, narrow range, scarcity

Synonyms: prevailing pattern, mainstream movement, leading direction
Antonyms: minor tendency, fading trend, secondary movement
