IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I gave advice to one of my closest friends, who was struggling to decide whether he should quit his part-time job to focus entirely on his university studies.

At that time, he was under a tremendous amount of pressure because he had to juggle coursework, group projects, and a demanding evening shift at a coffee shop. As a result, he was constantly sleep-deprived and emotionally drained. He even told me that he was on the verge of a mental breakdown because he could barely keep up with his academic workload.

After listening carefully to his concerns, I gave him some heartfelt advice. I suggested that instead of quitting his job immediately, he should first try to achieve a healthier work-life balance (sự cân bằng giữa công việc và cuộc sống – the ability to divide time properly between work and personal life). I told him to reduce his working hours and create a well-structured study schedule (lịch học được sắp xếp khoa học – an organized and carefully planned timetable). In my opinion, making impulsive decisions (quyết định bốc đồng – choices made suddenly without careful thought) could have caused financial difficulties later on.>> 🔥 Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

Another piece of advice I gave him was to prioritize his long-term goals instead of focusing solely on short-term stress. I explained that university life is often fast-paced and mentally exhausting, but those challenges are only temporary. I encouraged him to adopt a more level-headed approach (cách tiếp cận bình tĩnh và lý trí – a calm and sensible way of dealing with problems) and break his tasks into smaller, manageable steps. For example, I recommended using a productivity-boosting app (ứng dụng giúp tăng năng suất – an application designed to improve efficiency) to organize deadlines and daily tasks. I also advised him to set aside some downtime (thời gian nghỉ ngơi – time spent relaxing and resting) so he would not suffer from burnout.

Fortunately, my advice turned out to be quite effective. A few weeks later, he reduced his shifts at work and started following a more disciplined routine. Surprisingly, his academic performance improved significantly, and he became far less stressed than before. What impressed me the most was that he gradually regained his self-confidence and became much more motivated in both his studies and personal life.

Looking back, I feel extremely glad that I was able to support him during such a difficult period. This experience taught me that sometimes a few words of sincere and well-thought-out advice can make a life-changing difference (sự thay đổi mang tính bước ngoặt – an extremely important change that greatly improves someone’s life).

IV. PART 3

1. What problems can people face if they ask many different people for advice?

I think asking too many people for advice can sometimes create information overload (quá tải thông tin - a situation where someone receives too much information to process effectively). When individuals hear dozens of conflicting opinions, they often become uncertain about what decision they should make. This is particularly common among young adults who constantly seek guidance from family members, friends, and social-media users at the same time. For example, a student choosing a university major may receive completely different recommendations from parents, teachers, and classmates, which can leave them feeling mentally exhausted. Another problem is that people may gradually lose their decision-making autonomy (quyền tự đưa ra quyết định - the ability to make independent choices). If someone depends excessively on external opinions, they may become hesitant and lack confidence whenever they face even minor challenges. Over time, this habit can weaken their critical-thinking skills because they stop evaluating situations independently. For instance, some employees cannot even make routine workplace decisions without first asking colleagues for reassurance.

2. Why do some people like to ask others for advice on almost everything?

One major reason is that many people are naturally risk-averse (ngại rủi ro - unwilling to take risks or make uncertain decisions). They worry about making mistakes, so they seek reassurance from people around them before taking action. In today’s fast-paced society, individuals are under enormous academic and financial pressure, which makes them more fearful of poor decisions. For example, some young people even ask their friends what clothes to buy or what restaurants to visit because they are afraid of making the wrong choice. Another reason is that modern society has become highly interconnected (kết nối chặt chẽ - closely linked and socially connected) through social media and online communities. As a result, people are constantly exposed to others’ opinions and lifestyles, which encourages them to seek advice more frequently. Platforms such as online forums and discussion groups have made advice-seeking incredibly convenient and time-saving. Consequently, many individuals develop a habit of consulting others instead of trusting their own instincts. This tendency is especially noticeable among teenagers, who are strongly influenced by peer pressure and online trends.

3. In general, what kind of person is most suitable for giving advice to others?

I believe the most suitable advisers are people who possess strong emotional intelligence (trí tuệ cảm xúc - the ability to understand and manage emotions effectively). Such individuals are usually patient listeners who can understand other people’s feelings instead of judging them too quickly. This quality is extremely important because effective advice should provide emotional support as well as practical solutions. For example, a calm and understanding teacher can often guide students through personal difficulties more successfully than someone who simply criticizes them. Another important characteristic is having first-hand experience (kinh nghiệm trực tiếp - knowledge gained through personal experience) in a particular field or situation. People tend to trust advice more when it comes from someone who has already faced similar challenges in real life. For instance, entrepreneurs who have overcome financial setbacks are often better at advising young business owners about risk management and long-term planning. In addition, good advisers should be open-minded and objective rather than forcing their personal opinions onto others. This allows the person receiving advice to feel respected and empowered to make their own final decision.
