IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:
Today, I would like to tell you about a movie that made me feel depressed, which was Titanic, a timeless romantic tragedy that I watched last year.
I watched it on my own on a lazy Sunday afternoon when I was looking for something emotionally engaging to watch.
To be honest, I didn’t like it as much as I had expected because I had heard so many positive reviews and had been told that it was a timeless classic (một tác phẩm kinh điển vượt thời gian – a work that remains highly regarded and popular for a very long time).
The movie revolves around the sinking of the Titanic and the tragic love story between its two main characters (nhân vật – the people represented in a story, film, or novel), Jack and Rose. Although the film was beautifully made, I found the storyline rather bleak (ảm đạm, u tối – lacking hope or happiness) and emotionally overwhelming.
The first reason I felt disappointed was the way the film portrayed the characters and their ultimate fate (số phận cuối cùng – the final outcome of someone’s life or situation). Although Jack and Rose developed a deep emotional connection, their relationship was doomed from the outset because of the social barriers between them and the catastrophic events surrounding the ship. This created a heart-wrenching storyline (cốt truyện đau lòng – a story that causes intense sadness or emotional pain), and I found myself feeling increasingly melancholic (buồn man mác – deeply and quietly sad) as the story unfolded. For example, even though there were some romantic and uplifting moments, they were overshadowed by the constant sense that something terrible was about to happen.
The second reason was the tragic ending (kết thúc bi kịch – an ending involving great sadness or disaster), which was particularly difficult for me to watch. Jack sacrificed himself in the icy waters of the Atlantic so that Rose could survive, leaving her to carry on with her life (tiếp tục sống cuộc đời của mình – continue living after a difficult experience) without him. What made the ending even more devastating was that their love story had been so short-lived (ngắn ngủi – lasting for only a short period of time), despite having such a profound impact on Rose’s life. For instance, when Rose eventually grew old and reflected on Jack many years later, I was left with a lingering sense of sadness (cảm giác buồn dai dẳng – a feeling of sadness that remains for a long time), and that was when I realized why the movie had affected me so deeply.
Overall, although Titanic is undeniably a masterpiece (kiệt tác – an exceptionally well-made work of art) with stunning cinematography and a compelling plot, I wouldn’t say I enjoyed watching it because its tragic storyline and emotionally charged ending left me feeling genuinely depressed for quite a while.
IV. Part 3
2.1. Do you believe in movie reviews?
Yes, I do, although I would not take movie reviews at face value (believe something immediately without questioning it – tin ngay mà không kiểm chứng).
My first reason is that reviews can offer valuable insights (useful and meaningful information – những hiểu biết/thông tin có giá trị) into a film's storyline, acting and overall quality.
They allow me to gauge (assess or estimate – đánh giá, ước lượng) whether a particular film is likely to suit my personal taste before I spend two hours watching it.
For instance, a well-written review might point out that a seemingly entertaining film actually has a predictable plot and weak character development.
Another reason is that I prefer to consult several sources rather than rely on a single person's opinion.
Reading reviews from reputable sources (well-respected and trustworthy sources – nguồn đáng tin cậy, có uy tín) can give me a more well-rounded perspective (a balanced view considering different aspects – góc nhìn toàn diện).
That said, I always take individual preferences into account because a film that receives poor reviews can still strike a chord with (strongly appeal to or emotionally affect – chạm đến cảm xúc của) me.
So, reviews are useful as a decision-making tool (something used to help make a decision – công cụ hỗ trợ ra quyết định), but I ultimately trust my own judgement.>> 🔥 Nhắn zalo 0905834420 join group zalo Hóng đề thi máy 4 skills để cập nhật đề thi thật 4 kĩ năng hằng ngày [Kèm giải & đề làm online]

2.2. What are the different types of films in your country?
Vietnam has a diverse cinematic landscape (a wide range of films and filmmaking styles – bức tranh điện ảnh đa dạng) that caters to audiences with very different tastes.
One major category is mainstream entertainment (popular entertainment aimed at a large audience – hình thức giải trí đại chúng), including romantic comedies, action blockbusters and horror films.
These genres tend to attract younger viewers because they offer fast-paced plots, spectacular visuals and easily accessible entertainment.
For example, a big-budget action film can quickly become a box-office hit if it combines impressive special effects with a well-known cast.
Another important category is culturally rooted cinema (films strongly connected to local culture and traditions – điện ảnh gắn liền với văn hóa bản địa).
These productions often explore family relationships, traditional customs, historical events and social issues that are particularly relevant to Vietnamese audiences.
For instance, a family drama depicting generational conflicts may resonate strongly with viewers because it reflects real-life experiences in Vietnamese households.
Overall, the growing variety of genres means that the domestic film industry (the national filmmaking sector – ngành điện ảnh trong nước) can cater to both mass-market audiences and people looking for more sophisticated content.

2.3. Are historical films popular in your country? Why?
Yes, historical films remain relatively popular in Vietnam, particularly when they are based on landmark events (historically important events – những sự kiện lịch sử quan trọng).
One reason is that these films provide an engaging way of learning about the country's past without relying entirely on textbooks or classroom lessons.
They often bring history to life (make historical events feel vivid and real – làm sống động lịch sử) by portraying important figures, conflicts and cultural traditions.
For example, a well-produced historical drama can make young viewers more curious about a particular period of Vietnamese history.
Another reason is that historical films can strengthen people's connection with their national identity and cultural heritage.
Powerful storytelling, elaborate costumes and visually striking cinematography (visually impressive film photography – kỹ thuật quay phim bắt mắt) can create a strong emotional impact.
When these elements are combined successfully, they can evoke a sense of national pride (create feelings of pride in one's country – khơi dậy lòng tự hào dân tộc) among audiences.
Therefore, historical cinema is not merely a form of entertainment but can also serve as a cultural preservation tool (a means of protecting cultural knowledge and traditions – công cụ bảo tồn văn hóa).
New vocabulary

Synonyms: milestone event, pivotal event, historic occasion
Antonyms: minor event, insignificant incident, trivial occurrence

Antonyms: bland visuals, uninspiring photography, poor cinematography
Example: “Visually striking cinematography can create a strong emotional impact.”
evoke a sense of national pride – create feelings of pride in one's country – khơi dậy lòng tự hào dân tộc
Synonyms: inspire patriotism, cultivate national pride, stir patriotic feelings
Antonyms: undermine patriotism, diminish pride, alienate citizens
Example: “Historical films can evoke a sense of national pride.”
cultural preservation tool – something used to protect cultural heritage – công cụ bảo tồn văn hóa
Synonyms: heritage-preservation mechanism, cultural safeguard, preservation method
Antonyms: cultural threat, destructive influence, source of cultural loss
Example: “Cinema can serve as a cultural preservation tool.”
2.4. Do you think films with famous actors or actresses would be more popular?
Yes, I think films featuring famous actors are generally more likely to attract a large audience.
The first reason is their star power (the ability of famous celebrities to attract public attention – sức hút của người nổi tiếng), which can generate enormous publicity before a film is even released.
Established actors already have a loyal fan base, so their involvement can significantly drive audience interest (encourage people to become interested in something – thúc đẩy sự quan tâm của khán giả).
For example, fans may buy cinema tickets simply because their favourite actor has a leading role.
However, celebrity casting is not necessarily a guarantee of commercial success.
A second factor is the actual quality of the screenplay, direction and acting, because audiences can quickly lose interest in a film that is poorly made.
In other words, famous actors can create an initial marketing advantage (a benefit that helps promote a product or service – lợi thế tiếp thị), but strong content is needed to sustain long-term popularity.
Ultimately, star appeal may open the door, but substantive storytelling (storytelling with meaningful and well-developed content – cách kể chuyện có chiều sâu) is what keeps audiences engaged.
New vocabulary
star power – the ability of celebrities to attract attention and audiences – sức hút của người nổi tiếng
Synonyms: celebrity appeal, star attraction, fame-driven influence
Antonyms: anonymity, obscurity, lack of recognition
Example: “Their star power can generate publicity.”
drive audience interest – encourage people to become interested in something – thúc đẩy sự quan tâm của khán giả
Synonyms: attract viewers, stimulate interest, draw audiences
Antonyms: discourage viewers, repel audiences, reduce interest
Example: “Their involvement can drive audience interest.”
marketing advantage – a benefit that helps promote something – lợi thế tiếp thị
Synonyms: promotional advantage, commercial benefit, marketing edge
Antonyms: marketing disadvantage, commercial weakness, promotional obstacle
Example: “Celebrity casting provides a marketing advantage.”
substantive storytelling – storytelling containing meaningful, developed content – cách kể chuyện có chiều sâu
Synonyms: meaningful storytelling, profound narratives, content-rich storytelling
Antonyms: shallow storytelling, superficial narratives, empty content
Example: “Substantive storytelling keeps audiences engaged.”
2.5. Why are Japanese animated films so popular?
Japanese animated films, particularly anime, have gained worldwide appeal (the ability to attract people globally – sức hấp dẫn trên toàn thế giới) because they offer much more than simple children's entertainment.
One major reason is their compelling narratives (extremely engaging and convincing stories – cốt truyện hấp dẫn), which often explore complex emotions, relationships and moral dilemmas.
Unlike some conventional cartoons, many anime productions tackle mature themes such as identity, loss, friendship and social responsibility.
For example, an animated film can use a fictional world to explore very realistic struggles faced by ordinary people.
Another factor is the distinctive visual style and extraordinary attention to detail found in many Japanese productions.
The combination of meticulously crafted visuals (carefully and precisely created images – hình ảnh được trau chuốt tỉ mỉ) and memorable characters creates a unique viewing experience.
Furthermore, streaming platforms have made anime far more accessible to international audiences, allowing it to cross cultural boundaries (overcome differences between cultures – vượt qua ranh giới văn hóa).
As a result, Japanese animation has developed a devoted global fan base and become a cultural export (a cultural product successfully introduced to other countries – sản phẩm văn hóa được xuất khẩu ra nước ngoài).>> 🔥 IELTS TUTOR gợi ý tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

2.6. Should the director pay a lot of money to famous actors?
I think paying famous actors substantial amounts can be justified, but only under certain circumstances.
The first argument in favour of high salaries is that established stars can attract audiences and provide a significant commercial return (financial benefit generated by an investment – lợi nhuận thương mại).
If an actor has a huge following, their involvement may increase ticket sales, streaming figures and media attention.
For example, a bankable actor may help a production recover its enormous budget much faster.
However, directors should not allow celebrity fees (money paid to famous celebrities – thù lao dành cho người nổi tiếng) to consume such a large proportion of the budget that other aspects of production suffer.
Money should also be allocated to screenwriters, supporting actors, cinematographers and special-effects teams who contribute substantially to the final product.
Otherwise, the film could become a star-driven production (a film whose success depends heavily on celebrity actors – bộ phim phụ thuộc nhiều vào diễn viên nổi tiếng) rather than a genuinely well-crafted piece of cinema.
Therefore, I would support generous salaries when they are financially sustainable and reflect an actor's actual contribution rather than simply their fame.
New vocabulary
commercial return – financial benefit gained from an investment – lợi nhuận/lợi ích tài chính
Synonyms: financial return, economic benefit, monetary gain
Antonyms: financial loss, economic setback, monetary deficit
Example: “Famous actors can provide a significant commercial return.”

Synonyms: commercially successful actor, box-office draw, profitable star
Antonyms: unknown actor, unprofitable performer, box-office liability
Example: “A bankable actor may help recover the budget.”
celebrity fees – money paid to famous people for their work – thù lao cho người nổi tiếng
Synonyms: star salaries, celebrity remuneration, performance fees
Antonyms: low wages, modest payment, unpaid work
Example: “Directors should not let celebrity fees consume the whole budget.”
star-driven production – a production heavily dependent on famous actors – bộ phim phụ thuộc vào ngôi sao
Synonyms: celebrity-led film, star-centred production, actor-driven movie
Antonyms: ensemble production, director-led film, independent production
Example: “The film could become a star-driven production.”
financially sustainable – able to continue without causing financial problems – bền vững về tài chính
Synonyms: economically viable, financially feasible, cost-effective
Antonyms: financially unsustainable, unviable, loss-making
Example: “Salaries should be financially sustainable.”
2.7. What kinds of movies are popular in your country?
In Vietnam, big-budget blockbusters (films made with very large production budgets – phim bom tấn có ngân sách lớn) and romantic comedies remain particularly popular.
One reason is that these genres provide accessible entertainment and are often easy for people to enjoy with friends or family.
Action films, in particular, tend to attract younger viewers because of their high-octane sequences (extremely exciting and energetic scenes – những cảnh quay kịch tính, giàu năng lượng) and spectacular special effects.
For example, a visually impressive superhero or action movie can generate enormous box-office revenue (money earned from cinema ticket sales – doanh thu phòng vé).
At the same time, domestic family dramas continue to appeal to audiences because they often portray familiar relationships and social values.
These films can strike a chord with the Vietnamese public (strongly connect with people's emotions – chạm đến cảm xúc của người Việt) by addressing issues such as family responsibility and generational differences.
Streaming services have also broadened people's tastes, making psychological thrillers, documentaries and international productions increasingly accessible.
As a result, the Vietnamese film market is becoming more diverse, with both mass-market cinema (films designed for a broad audience – điện ảnh đại chúng) and niche productions gaining traction.
New vocabulary
big-budget blockbuster – a film made with a very large budget – phim bom tấn ngân sách lớn
Synonyms: high-budget film, major motion picture, large-scale production
Antonyms: low-budget film, indie movie, small-scale production
Example: “Big-budget blockbusters remain popular in Vietnam.”

Synonyms: action-packed scenes, adrenaline-fuelled sequences, thrilling moments
Antonyms: slow-paced scenes, subdued sequences, uneventful moments
Example: “Young people enjoy films with high-octane sequences.”
box-office revenue – money earned from cinema ticket sales – doanh thu phòng vé
Synonyms: ticket revenue, cinema earnings, theatrical income
Antonyms: box-office loss, financial deficit, poor ticket sales
Example: “An action movie can generate enormous box-office revenue.”
strike a chord with the public – strongly appeal emotionally to people – tạo sự đồng cảm sâu sắc với công chúng
Synonyms: resonate with audiences, touch people's hearts, connect emotionally
Antonyms: alienate audiences, fail to connect, repel viewers
Example: “Family dramas can strike a chord with the Vietnamese public.”
mass-market cinema – cinema intended for a broad audience – điện ảnh đại chúng
Synonyms: mainstream cinema, popular film, commercial cinema
Antonyms: niche cinema, arthouse cinema, specialised film
Example: “Both mass-market cinema and niche productions are growing.”
2.8. Should actors be paid more?
I believe talented actors should be fairly compensated, but I would not argue that all actors automatically deserve higher salaries.
My first point is that top-tier performers (actors belonging to the highest professional level – những diễn viên thuộc nhóm hàng đầu) can generate enormous commercial value for a production.
Their reputation, acting ability and fan base can attract audiences and help a film secure substantial revenue.
For instance, an A-list actor may be able to command a higher salary because their name alone can influence ticket sales and streaming subscriptions.
However, there is also a serious issue of income disparity (a significant difference in earnings between people – sự chênh lệch thu nhập) within the acting profession.
While a handful of celebrities earn astronomical sums, many lesser-known performers struggle to make a stable living despite having considerable talent.
I therefore think the industry should place greater emphasis on merit-based remuneration (payment determined by ability and contribution – thù lao dựa trên năng lực và đóng góp) rather than simply rewarding fame or social-media popularity.
Ultimately, higher pay is justified when an actor's skills, workload and contribution genuinely warrant it, but fame alone should not be the deciding factor.
New vocabulary
top-tier performer – a performer belonging to the highest professional level – diễn viên thuộc nhóm hàng đầu
Synonyms: elite actor, first-rate performer, leading talent
Antonyms: amateur performer, novice actor, inexperienced talent
Example: “Top-tier performers can generate enormous commercial value.”
income disparity – a significant difference in income between people – sự chênh lệch thu nhập
Synonyms: income inequality, earnings gap, wage disparity
Antonyms: income equality, equal earnings, wage parity
Example: “There is considerable income disparity within the acting profession.”
make a stable living – earn enough money to live securely – kiếm đủ tiền để có cuộc sống ổn định
Synonyms: earn a steady income, support oneself, make a decent living
Antonyms: struggle financially, live in poverty, be unemployed
Example: “Many performers struggle to make a stable living.”
merit-based remuneration – payment based on ability, performance and contribution – thù lao dựa trên năng lực và đóng góp
Synonyms: performance-based pay, skill-based compensation, contribution-based salary
Antonyms: arbitrary pay, fame-based payment, unequal compensation
Example: “The industry should emphasise merit-based remuneration.”
warrant – to justify or deserve something – xứng đáng, đảm bảo cho
Synonyms: justify, merit, deserve
Antonyms: discourage, disqualify, undermine
Example: “Higher pay is justified when an actor's contribution genuinely warrants it.”
