IELTS TUTOR gợi ý bài tham khảo:

Today, I would like to tell you about a time when I received misleading information (thông tin sai lệch – information that gives a wrong idea or impression). The information I received was regarding the wrong date and time for the fireworks festival in Danang in 2023. I initially read this information online when I visited a popular travel website dedicated to events and festivals. I came across (tình cờ thấy – find or encounter by chance) the details on a well-known travel blog that claimed to provide accurate updates about the festival schedule.

At first, I trusted the blog because it appeared authoritative and well-designed (đáng tin cậy và thiết kế chuyên nghiệp – seeming reliable and professional). However, I later discovered through official sources, such as the Danang city government’s website and local news channels, that the fireworks festival was actually scheduled for a different date and time. These trusted sources provided updated and verified information (thông tin đã được kiểm chứng – confirmed and validated information), directly contradicting what I had read on the blog. For instance, the blog stated the festival would be on the 30th of June, while the official website confirmed it was on the 28th of June.

Another reason why the blog’s information seemed unreliable was that it did not cite any references or credible sources to support its claim, which further cast doubt on its accuracy (nghi ngờ về độ chính xác – uncertainty about correctness). Consequently, it became evident that the information I initially came across was incorrect and untrustworthy (không đáng tin cậy – not reliable). This experience taught me to always double-check information from multiple official or credible sources before making plans, especially when it comes to events or important schedules.

In summary, receiving wrong information from an online travel blog highlighted the importance of relying on credible sources (nguồn đáng tin cậy – trustworthy and authoritative information) to avoid confusion and unnecessary inconvenience.

IV. Part 3

QUESTION 1 — Do you think that people are more likely to believe true or false information these days?

People today are more likely to believe false information because the online world has turned into a breeding ground (môi trường nuôi dưỡng; a place where harmful things grow quickly) for misleading content. Many people skim information instead of reading deeply, so they become vulnerable to superficial claims (thông tin hời hợt; statements lacking depth) that look convincing at first glance. Social media platforms also amplify emotional posts, making individuals more susceptible to manipulative narratives (câu chuyện thao túng; stories designed to influence unfairly). For instance, during public crises, many users shared unverified remedies simply because they felt comforting.

Another reason is that people suffer from information fatigue (mệt mỏi thông tin; exhaustion caused by too much information), which makes it harder for them to evaluate accuracy. When overwhelmed, they often rely on quick explanations that align with their beliefs, even if those rely on distorted evidence (bằng chứng bị bóp méo; facts misrepresented). This mental shortcut allows false ideas to circulate widely and appear credible. A clear example is how fake product reviews online still attract thousands of buyers who do not have time to verify details.

QUESTION 2 — Have you ever come across a piece of information that you later found out to be false? How did you feel about it?

Yes, I have encountered false information many times, and each experience felt like stepping into a misleading trap (cái bẫy gây hiểu lầm; a situation designed to deceive). At first, the information seemed reliable because it used authoritative language (ngôn ngữ có vẻ uy tín; language that appears professional) and sophisticated phrasing. I accepted it without checking, but later I discovered it was based on a fabricated claim (tuyên bố bịa đặt; completely invented information). That realization made me feel frustrated because I had invested trust in something untrue.

Another feeling I experienced was embarrassment, especially if I had shared the information with others. I felt like my credibility had been damaged due to my lack of caution. Moments like that pushed me to become more skeptical and analytical about online content. Since then, I always double-check sources to avoid falling into similar traps.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

QUESTION 3 — In your opinion, what are some of the consequences of misinformation in society?

Misinformation can create serious damage because it acts like a disruptive force (lực gây rối; something that destabilizes systems) that spreads confusion. Many people make important decisions based on inaccurate assumptions (giả định sai; beliefs not supported by facts), which can harm public health or social stability. We saw this clearly during health emergencies when false cures circulated widely and influenced vulnerable groups. As a result, communities became divided over what to believe.

Additionally, misinformation weakens trust in institutions by creating a climate of public skepticism (hoài nghi xã hội; doubt about official information). When citizens can no longer distinguish truth from lies, they develop erosion of confidence (sự xói mòn niềm tin; gradual loss of trust) in authorities and media. This persistent doubt reduces cooperation and harms social cohesion. Ultimately, a society filled with misinformation becomes less informed and more polarized.

  • QUESTION 4 — How do you verify the accuracy of information that you come across online?

To verify accuracy, I normally take several steps, starting with checking whether the source is a credible outlet (nguồn tin đáng tin; a trustworthy publisher). Then I compare the information with corroborating evidence (bằng chứng xác thực; facts that confirm a claim) from multiple sources to see whether the details match. If something seems suspicious, I conduct a background check (kiểm tra nguồn gốc; investigation of the origin of information) to understand the context. These steps help me avoid relying on misleading or biased content.

I also examine the writing style to detect emotional manipulation, which is common in false information. Additionally, I use fact-checking websites to confirm claims before accepting them. This habit saves me from believing exaggerated or sensational statements. Overall, verifying accuracy has become an essential skill in the digital era.

QUESTION 5 — Do you think that schools should teach critical thinking skills to help students better evaluate information? Why or why not?

Yes, schools should definitely teach critical thinking because it equips students with a discerning mindset (tư duy sáng suốt; the ability to judge clearly) in an age full of misleading content. With the right training, students learn to question underlying assumptions (giả định nền tảng; beliefs hidden beneath information) instead of accepting everything at face value. This habit prevents them from being persuaded by emotional or manipulative arguments. For example, students who practice evaluation skills can easily spot logical fallacies in viral posts.

Another benefit is that critical thinking empowers students to become independent evaluators (người đánh giá độc lập; individuals who assess information objectively) rather than passive consumers. They develop the ability to analyze evidence and identify biased or incomplete reasoning. Such skills prepare them for academic success and responsible citizenship. In the long term, a society of critical thinkers is more resilient to misinformation and manipulation.
