Today, I would like to tell you about a second-hand marketplace that I’ve been using a lot recently — Chợ Tốt, a well-known platform in Vietnam for buying and selling used goods.

I first stumbled upon (tình cờ phát hiện – to discover something by chance) this website a few years ago when I was looking for a reasonably priced pre-owned laptop (laptop đã qua sử dụng – a laptop that had been used before but was still in good condition). A friend of mine, who’s always on the lookout for budget-friendly deals (những món hời hợp túi tiền – low-cost but valuable purchases), recommended it to me, and I’ve been hooked ever since.

Chợ Tốt offers a wide array of second-hand products (nhiều loại sản phẩm đã qua sử dụng – a large variety of used goods), ranging from electronics and household appliances to vehicles and furniture. What makes it stand out is its user-friendly interface (giao diện dễ sử dụng – a design that is easy to navigate) and built-in chat function (chức năng trò chuyện tích hợp – a messaging feature within the website) that allows buyers and sellers to negotiate directly.>> Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

One feature I find extremely useful is the ability to filter listings by location and price range (lọc bài đăng theo khu vực và mức giá – narrow down search results based on geography and cost), which saves me a lot of time and energy. It’s also a great way to discover hidden gems (những món hàng quý giá bị bỏ qua – valuable items that are overlooked) that might not be available in traditional stores.

The platform has built a reputation for being trustworthy and transparent (đáng tin cậy và minh bạch – reliable and open in communication or transactions), largely due to its community-driven review system (hệ thống đánh giá từ cộng đồng – ratings and feedback provided by users), where both buyers and sellers are rated after each transaction. This peer-to-peer model (mô hình người dùng với người dùng – a system where users interact and trade directly) fosters a sense of accountability and reduces scams.

What I particularly love about Chợ Tốt is the sense of sustainable shopping (mua sắm bền vững – purchasing that supports environmental protection by reducing waste). Giving a second life to items not only saves money but also helps reduce landfill waste, which aligns with my eco-conscious mindset (tư duy bảo vệ môi trường – awareness and concern for the environment).

All in all, Chợ Tốt has become my go-to website (trang web ưa thích – the website I turn to most often) whenever I need to buy or sell something without breaking the bank. It’s not just a platform; it’s a thriving online community (cộng đồng trực tuyến phát triển mạnh – an active and growing group of internet users) where people support each other through affordable and sustainable commerce (thương mại hợp túi tiền và bền vững – cost-effective and eco-friendly business practices).

IV. Part 3

Why do people buy second-hand clothes?

I believe thrift-conscious consumers (người tiêu dùng tiết kiệm – people who prioritize saving money) often turn to second-hand markets for both financial and ethical reasons. Firstly, pre-loved garments (quần áo đã qua sử dụng – gently used clothing) are significantly more budget-friendly (thân thiện với túi tiền – affordable) than brand-new items, allowing shoppers to stretch their money further. For example, students or low-income families might rely on thrift stores to afford quality clothing. Secondly, many buyers are driven by eco-conscious values (giá trị ý thức sinh thái – environmental awareness), as reusing clothes reduces textile waste (rác thải dệt may – discarded fabric materials) and lessens the carbon footprint (dấu chân carbon – environmental impact) of fast fashion. However, some also enjoy the one-of-a-kind finds (món đồ độc đáo – unique items) unavailable in mainstream retail, turning second-hand shopping into a treasure-hunting experience (trải nghiệm săn lùng đồ hiếm – an adventure in finding rare items).

New Vocab:

  1. Thrift-conscious consumersSyn: frugal shoppers, economical buyers, cost-aware individuals | Ant: big spenders, lavish shoppers, wasteful consumers

  2. Pre-loved garmentsSyn: used clothing, vintage apparel, hand-me-downs | Ant: brand-new outfits, unworn clothes, fresh stock

  3. Eco-conscious valuesSyn: green principles, sustainability ethics, environmental mindfulness | Ant: apathy toward nature, disregard for ecology, wasteful attitudes

Grammar Structures:

  • Reduced relative clause: "Reusing clothes reduces textile waste (which is) discarded fabric materials." (Việc tái sử dụng quần áo giảm rác thải dệt may (vốn là) vật liệu vải bị vứt bỏ.)

  • Compound adjective: "Budget-friendly options attract thrifty shoppers." (Lựa chọn thân thiện túi tiền thu hút người mua tiết kiệm.)

Should governments promote recycling?

Absolutely, authorities should spearhead recycling initiatives (dẫn đầu sáng kiến tái chế – lead recycling programs) to combat mounting waste crises (khủng hoảng rác thải gia tăng – growing trash problems). Firstly, policy-driven campaigns (chiến dịch dựa trên chính sách – government-led efforts) can educate citizens on waste segregation (phân loại rác – sorting trash) and incentivize participation through tax rebates (giảm thuế – financial benefits). For instance, Germany’s deposit return schemes (chương trình hoàn tiền vỏ chai – bottle recycling rewards) have drastically boosted recycling rates. Secondly, public-sector investment (đầu tư khu vực công – government funding) in recycling infrastructure (cơ sở hạ tầng tái chế – facilities for processing waste) ensures long-term sustainability, unlike short-lived individual efforts (nỗ lực cá nhân ngắn hạn – temporary personal actions). Without systemic support, even environmentally aware individuals (người có ý thức môi trường – eco-friendly people) may struggle to make a difference.

New Vocab:

  1. Spearhead initiativesSyn: lead projects, pioneer programs, drive campaigns | Ant: follow passively, neglect efforts, hinder progress

  2. Mounting waste crisesSyn: escalating trash issues, growing pollution, overflowing landfills | Ant: waste reduction, clean environments, sustainable practices

  3. Policy-driven campaignsSyn: government-led actions, legislative measures, official programs | Ant: grassroots movements, informal efforts, unregulated activities

Grammar Structures:

  • Passive voice for emphasis: "Recycling infrastructure must be expanded to handle urban waste." (Cơ sở hạ tầng tái chế phải được mở rộng để xử lý rác thải đô thị.)>> tham khảo CẦN VIẾT & THU ÂM BAO NHIÊU BÀI ĐỂ ĐẠT 8.0 SPEAKING & 7.0 WRITING?

  • Conditional clause: "Without systemic support, even environmentally aware individuals would find it hard to recycle effectively." (Thiếu hỗ trợ hệ thống, người có ý thức môi trường cũng khó tái chế hiệu quả.)

Is buying too many clothes wasteful?

Undoubtedly, excessive apparel consumption (tiêu thụ quần áo quá mức – buying too many clothes) epitomizes mindless consumerism (tiêu dùng vô ý thức – impulsive shopping). Firstly, fast-fashion addiction (nghiện thời trang nhanh – obsession with cheap, trendy clothes) fuels resource depletion (cạn kiệt tài nguyên – exhausting natural materials) and sweatshop labor (lao động xưởng tệ hại – exploitative factory work), as seen in brands producing disposable clothing (quần áo dùng một lần – low-quality garments). For example, a single cotton T-shirt requires 2,700 liters of water—a staggering environmental cost (chi phí môi trường đáng kinh ngạc – huge ecological impact). Secondly, clutter accumulation (tích trữ lộn xộn – hoarding unused items) worsens mental overwhelm (căng thẳng tinh thần – stress from disorganization), whereas minimalist wardrobes (tủ quần áo tối giản – curated clothing collections) promote conscious consumption (tiêu dùng có ý thức – intentional buying).

New Vocab:

  1. Mindless consumerismSyn: impulsive buying, reckless shopping, unchecked materialism | Ant: frugality, deliberate purchasing, mindful spending

  2. Resource depletionSyn: resource exhaustion, ecological drain, overuse of materials | Ant: conservation, sustainability, resource renewal

  3. Disposable clothingSyn: throwaway fashion, short-lived apparel, cheap garments | Ant: durable outfits, long-lasting wear, investment pieces

Grammar Structures:

  • Comparative structure: "Minimalist wardrobes are more sustainable than overflowing closets." (Tủ quần áo tối giản bền vững hơn tủ chật cứng.)

  • Emphatic inversion: "Not only does fast fashion waste resources, but it also exploits workers." (Không chỉ thời trang nhanh lãng phí tài nguyên, mà còn bóc lột lao động.)
