Today, I would like to tell you about my older cousin, Minh, who solved a problem in a very smart way. He works in property management and is an extremely quick-witted (nhanh trí – able to think and react intelligently very quickly) person. The problem occurred when my uncle’s apartment building was struggling to attract tenants despite being newly built.

What I think made his solution particularly clever was, firstly, his ability to understand customer psychology instead of simply focusing on lowering prices. At that time, many nearby landlords were engaged in a fierce price war, so my uncle initially planned to reduce the rent dramatically. However, Minh believed that this short-term strategy would damage the building’s long-term profitability. Instead, he suggested turning the apartment into a more tenant-friendly (thân thiện với khách thuê – designed to meet tenants’ comfort and convenience) living environment. For example, he upgraded the security system with smart door locks, added a rooftop co-working space, and improved the lighting throughout the building. He also created eye-catching social-media videos to promote the rooms online. As a result, many young office workers and university students became interested because the building looked modern, secure, and highly convenient. Within only two months, most of the vacant rooms had been rented out.>> 🔥 Form đăng kí giải đề thi thật IELTS 4 kĩ năng kèm bài giải bộ đề 100 đề PART 2 IELTS SPEAKING quý đang thi (update hàng tuần) từ IELTS TUTOR

Secondly, I think his solution was brilliant because it was extremely forward-thinking (có tầm nhìn xa – planning wisely for future success) rather than temporary. Many business owners tend to panic during a cash-flow crisis (khủng hoảng dòng tiền – a situation where a business lacks enough money to operate smoothly) and immediately slash prices to attract customers. However, Minh focused on improving the overall customer experience instead of competing solely on cost. This was a highly cost-effective (tiết kiệm chi phí – producing good results without excessive spending) strategy because satisfied tenants later recommended the apartment to their friends through word-of-mouth marketing. For instance, one tenant posted a positive review online, and after that, several more people contacted my uncle to arrange viewings. Thanks to Minh’s innovative mindset, the apartment building eventually became almost fully occupied and developed a strong reputation in the local area.

To sum up, I truly admire Minh because he solved the problem calmly, creatively, and strategically. I believe his intelligent decision-making is something many entrepreneurs could learn from.

IV. Part 3

1. Are people born clever or need to learn to be clever?

I believe intelligence is partly inherited, but it is also heavily shaped by education and life experience. Some children are naturally quick-witted (English: able to think and respond very fast; Vietnamese: nhanh trí, lanh lợi), which allows them to solve problems more easily than their peers. For example, a child may understand mathematical formulas almost instantly without much instruction. However, natural ability alone is rarely enough because people still need continuous training to reach their full potential. Another important factor is the learning environment, especially access to high-quality schooling (English: excellent educational systems and teaching; Vietnamese: nền giáo dục chất lượng cao). Students who are raised in academically supportive families often develop stronger critical-thinking skills and better study habits. For instance, children whose parents encourage reading and intellectual discussion usually become more knowledgeable and intellectually mature over time. Therefore, being clever is a combination of inborn talent and long-term learning rather than something people are simply born with.

2. Why are some children more intelligent than others?

One major reason is that children grow up in different family environments and educational conditions. Kids from knowledge-rich households (English: homes filled with educational support and learning resources; Vietnamese: gia đình có môi trường giàu tri thức) are usually exposed to books, meaningful conversations, and educational activities from a young age. As a result, they tend to develop language ability and logical thinking much faster. For example, parents who regularly read bedtime stories can significantly improve their children’s vocabulary and imagination. Another reason is that every child has different levels of motivation and curiosity. Some youngsters are naturally self-driven (English: motivated by themselves without external pressure; Vietnamese: tự giác, có động lực tự thân), so they actively seek knowledge instead of waiting for teachers to force them to study. For instance, highly curious students often watch documentaries or conduct independent research in their free time. Consequently, these habits gradually make them more intellectually capable than others. Overall, intelligence is influenced not only by genetics but also by upbringing, personality, and learning attitudes.

3. Do you think society needs people with different types of intelligence?

Yes, I strongly believe society functions best when people possess different forms of intelligence and expertise. Modern communities are extremely multifaceted (English: having many different aspects or features; Vietnamese: đa chiều, đa khía cạnh), so they require a wide variety of skills rather than just academic excellence. For example, scientific researchers contribute through innovation, while emotionally intelligent leaders help maintain social harmony in workplaces. In addition, creative individuals often play a vital role in cultural and technological development. People with forward-thinking (English: innovative and planning for the future; Vietnamese: có tư duy tiến bộ, nhìn xa trông rộng) mindsets frequently introduce groundbreaking ideas that improve people’s quality of life. A good example is entrepreneurs who invent environmentally friendly products or digital solutions for everyday problems. Meanwhile, practical workers such as technicians and craftsmen are equally essential because society cannot operate smoothly without them. If everyone had the same abilities, many industries would struggle due to a lack of diversity in skills and perspectives. Therefore, different types of intelligence complement one another and collectively contribute to social progress.

  • “If everyone had the same abilities, many industries would struggle.”
    → Second conditional
→ Dịch: nếu mọi người đều có cùng khả năng, nhiều ngành nghề sẽ gặp khó khăn.

4. Does modern society need talents of all kinds?

Absolutely, modern society depends heavily on people with diverse talents because different sectors require different abilities. In today’s highly technology-driven (English: strongly influenced by technology; Vietnamese: bị chi phối mạnh bởi công nghệ) world, countries need not only scientists and engineers but also artists, teachers, and healthcare workers. Each profession contributes to society in its own unique way and helps maintain social stability. For instance, medical experts protect public health, whereas creative professionals enrich cultural life through music, films, and literature. Moreover, having a variety of talented individuals encourages cross-disciplinary collaboration (English: cooperation between different fields; Vietnamese: sự hợp tác liên ngành). When people from different professional backgrounds work together, they often create more effective and innovative solutions to complex problems. A clear example is how software developers and doctors cooperate to produce advanced healthcare applications. Without this diversity of talent, economic growth and social development would become far less sustainable. Therefore, every type of talent plays an indispensable role in the advancement of contemporary society.
